Developed in partnership with TVO and White Pine Pictures, Where the Universe Sings is an Augmented Reality app and website that celebrate the work of Canadian icon Lawren Harris. The mobile app uses the works of Mr. Harris as augmented reality markers, overlaying them with flowing animations that provide insights into his iterative process.
The mobile app was designed to interact with eight of Lawren Harris’s works. Each painting triggers a unique animation & audio sequence designed to illustrate Mr. Harris’s process and philosophy. In developing the project we worked closely with the Harris Estate to ensure that each element accurately reflects the spirit of his work.
The app’s augmented reality sequences are embedded directly into the artist’s works. From galleries to coffee table books, the app acts as an interactive window into the northern landscapes that inspired so much of Mr. Harris’s catalogue.
As seen in the sequence above, each AR sequence begins by wiping to a blank canvas, before layering on iterations of Harris’s works. Excerpts from the artists recordings are then paired with the animations to offer further insight into his creative process.
